So this is where all of this started...
That stupid tour and and shit-show festival and that godforsaken van, and everything was okay until you find out it's not okay.
You're smoking weed in someone's backyard and falling asleep while your best friend is off somewhere carving the marks into their skin that you'd question them about the next day, and this skunk comes along and sprays your tour-mate's dog. Everything smelled like corpse for weeks.
You come back home, and your best friend is in the van, leaving voicemail after voicemail for you even though you're twenty feet away.
But while you're driving them to the ER and sharing a cigarette, you're not just falling out of balance. Call it suspension bridge theory. Emotion out of crisis.
So you're sitting in the waiting room, and you two are drinking water out of those tiny plastic cups and laughing nervously, and this police officer at the front desk comes up and points to your backpack. He says:
"I don't want to be presumptuous, but is that smell weed or skunk?"
lyrics
This is so lame
I haven't been the same
Since I came back from the West Coast
And my best friend had become a ghost
His bloody footprints left a trail
We took him to the hospital
And I went to Mikaela's
Just to sort out my denial
So this is not a sad song
It's a song for all the things I did not know there were no names for
I made a new friend it was great
Someone whom I could relate
We talked about free pizza
And the government and magic
Then something happened it was strange
I came back my feelings changed
And maybe yours did too
But they did not remain
So this is not a love song
It's a song for all the things I did not know there were no names for
Call it 'down in the dumps' or feeling blue
It's the same old thing that we all go through
The ubiquitous moaning, the heartache and groaning
Is not unique to me or you
So this is not a positive song
It's just a message in a bottle and I'm sending it along
And it's not even a good song
It's just words for the emotions I can't put my finger on

The album art is what drew me first to this album, although I had already heard a different album. Loved that one, loved this one. Just genuinely feel-good music. jskaloney
